COMMON PROBLEM

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY BABY’S RASH IS INFECTED WITH YEAST?

A yeast infection typically appears in places where it is warm and moist such as the folds of the skin. It usually presents as a deep red rash with white scales and lesions outside the diaper area, or satellite lesions.

HOW LONG SHOULD IT TAKE FOR MY BABY’S RASH TO HEAL?

With correct and consistent treatment, diaper rash should clear up within 7 days. If your baby’s rash worsens or does not clear up in 7 days be sure to call your pediatrician.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CAUSES OF A YEAST INFECTED RASH?

Yeast infections are caused Candida albicans bacteria. These bacteria are known to thrive in warm, moist, tightly covered areas such as the folds of the skin. The most common cause of a yeast diaper rash is antibiotics. Antibiotics prescribed for a bacterial condition will kill the offending bacteria, but also attack the body’s good bacteria. The best way to prevent a yeast diaper rash is to make sure that your baby’s diaper area is clean and dry and follow your pediatrician’s recommendations for treating the yeast diaper rash.
